Mikel Arteta Makes Final Decision on Arsenal Transfer Priority as £30m Opportunity Emerges

Edu and Mikel Arteta

Mikel Arteta and Edu have finalized Arsenal’s summer transfer strategy, pivoting focus to bolstering their midfield after Benjamin Sesko re-signed with RB Leipzig. Strengthening the engine room was always a priority, especially with Thomas Partey likely to leave and Kai Havertz’s role shifting.

Arsenal’s scouting radar includes Martin Zubimendi, Bruno Guimaraes, Amadou Onana, and Youssouf Fofana. While Zubimendi and Guimaraes seem out of reach, Onana and Fofana are viable targets. Both are currently showcasing their skills at Euro 2024, potentially delaying transfers.

The Gunners are leaning towards a No.6 role, making Fofana, a traditional holding midfielder, a top target. With Fofana’s contract at AS Monaco expiring in 2025, a move seems imminent if no extension is agreed. The 25-year-old midfielder hinted at a club change before Euro 2024, aligning with Arsenal’s plans.
