Gary Neville Blows Hot on Arsenal Defender Kieran Tierney During Scotland’s Euro 2024 Defeat to Germany

Gary Neville has taken a swipe at Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney, accusing him of ‘getting carried away’ during Scotland’s tough Euro 2024 loss to Germany. The Scots were handed a 5-1 thrashing by the hosts, nearly facing a record Euros defeat.

Goals from Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, Niclas Füllkrug, and Emre Can sealed Germany’s emphatic win. Scotland’s challenge became steeper after Ryan Porteous saw red for a foul on Ilkay Gundogan, conceding a penalty in the process.

Neville’s Critique

Speaking on ITV, Neville pointed out Scotland’s early overexcitement, especially highlighting Tierney’s premature celebrations. “They were getting caught up in the first five minutes,” Neville remarked. He criticized Tierney for celebrating a goal-kick alongside Andy Robertson, indicating it might have unsettled the less experienced players.

Tierney’s Arsenal Future in Doubt

Tierney, who has played over 100 games for Arsenal, spent last season on loan at Real Sociedad and might be looking at an exit from the Emirates. The defender hinted that with the current depth in his position at Arsenal, a move could be on the cards.

“There is every chance,” Tierney admitted to The Athletic, when asked if he has played his last game for Arsenal. The competition in his position is fierce, with players like Zinchenko, Timber, Tomiyasu, and Kiwior in the squad.

Scotland’s Path Forward

Despite the heavy defeat, Scotland’s hopes of advancing to the knockout stages remain alive with crucial group games against Switzerland and Hungary. They face Switzerland next, who recently defeated Hungary 3-1, making it a must-watch fixture for Scottish fans.

Tierney’s situation at Arsenal remains fluid, and his future might see him donning new colors as the transfer window progresses. Meanwhile, Scotland will need to regroup and refocus to stay in the competition.
